The flag, which was designed by Gilbert Baker in 1978, originally featured eight colours, each with its own symbolic meaning. Blue was one of these colours and was intended to symbolize the concept of harmony among diverse communities within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Over time, the flag evolved to its current form with six stripes, with each colour retaining its own significance. Blue, however, is no longer part of the most widely recognized rainbow pride flag but remains an important part of the flag’s historical legacy.
